Checker’s (or Rally's depending on your location) announced on May 29, 2019 that they had a data breach resulting in the theft of credit and debit card information of thousands of their customers at over 100 restaurants in the United States.
The restaurants had malware installed on their POS (point of sale) systems between 2017 and 2019. The malware stole credit/debit card numbers, cardholder names, pin data, and more. They said they only recently discovered the malware.
From Checker's website:
After discovering the issue, we quickly engaged leading data security experts to conduct an extensive investigation and coordinated with affected restaurants and federal law enforcement authorities to address the matter. We have worked closely with the third-party security experts to contain and remove the malware.
Not all Checkers and Rally’s restaurants were affected by this issue. A list of the impacted locations and their respective estimated dates of exposure is available at this link:

In addition, not all guests who visited the listed restaurants were affected by this issue.

Our advice:
If you’ve eaten at a Checker’s or Rally’s and paid for your order with a credit or debit card, you should check if your location is on the list, and then call your credit/debit company and notify them that your card was involved in this breach.
Please share this information with your friends who may have eaten at a Checker's or Rally's and used a credit/debit card to pay for their order.
